depending on local practice. The admin depart-
ment normally controls the serialization of
correspondence for the activity.
The date is typed in day-month-year order; for
example, 1 June 85. A complete set of senders
symbols might look like this:
Correspondence is dated with the date on
which it is signed. The date may be typed or
stamped, according to local practice.
CLASSIFICATION. If a letter is classified,
the appropriate designation, TOP SECRET,
SECRET, or CONFIDENTIAL, is typed in
capital letters at the left margin two lines below
the date in the senders symbols.
In addition to the typed classification, the
classification is stamped in the center of the top
and bottom margins. When practicable, the
stamped lettering is in red. For further instructions

When the term Top Secret, Secret, o r
Confidential is used in the body of corre-
spondence to denote a classification category, only
the initial letter is capitalized. The format of a
classified letter is shown in figure 2-10.
