CARRIER DIVISIONS LEARNING OBJECTIVE:    Recognize the broad purpose of the aircraft carrier within a Navy task force. Now you know the basic organization of a carrier. This knowledge allows you to understand how your carrier fits in the total organization of the Navy. If more than one carrier is operating with a Navy task force, your carrier is a part of a carrier division (CARDIV). The commander of a carrier division is usually an admiral, who is assisted by a staff of highly qualified officers and administrative personnel. The carrier division will be a part of either the Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet or the U.S. Pacific Fleet. A carrier division operating with the Atlantic Fleet will receive orders from the Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet (COMNAVAIRLANT).
