13. Remove the cotter pin and washer; withdraw
the clutch tripper pin, and take out the clutch
trippers and clutch tripper springs.
14. Remove the clutch fork trunnion retainer
and clutch fork trunnion.
15. Draw the clutch fork out of position and
remove from the housing.
16. Remove the external retaining ring on the
wormshaft, and pull the wormshaft gear.
17. Remove the wormshaft blind cap.
18. Remove the wormshaft assembly by pressing
on the end from which the shaft gear has been
removed.
19. Remove the drive assembly from the
housing.
The assembly removed in step 18 can be further
disassembled without further instructions. Bearings
are a press fit.
NOTE
Adjustments on the geared limit switch
are made only by a qualified electrician.
The following procedure is to be used for setting
the torque limit switch:
1. Turn off the power.
2. Remove the limit switch cover from the
housing.
3 Loosen the jamnut on the adjusting screw on
the torque limit switch.
4. Move the adjusting screw in if a lighter
sheave seating is desired. Move the screw out if a
tighter seating is desired.
5. Turn on the power and lower the sheave by
depressing the LOWER push button, allowing the
torque switch to function in stopping the motor.
6. Readjust as necessary. The final setting is
obtained by means of this trial and error
adjustment.
7. Install the limit switch cover on the housing.
Deck Pendants
Deck pendants are made of 1 3/8-inch diameter,
6 x 30 flattened strand construction, preformed,
uncoated lang lay wire rope with a minimum
breaking strength of 188,000 pounds. Each wire
rope is made up of 6 steel strands, each of which is
a bundle of 12 major and 12 intermediate wires
twisted around a triangular core of 3 to 9 wires.
(See fig. 3-27.) The strands are twisted about an
oiled-hemp center core, within which is contained a
paper or plastic tape strip bearing the name of the
wire rope manufacturer. The function of the oiled
hemp center is to provide a cushion for each
strand and also to supply lubrication when the cable
is under tension. The deck pendant cable ends are
equipped with swaged-type terminals.
These
terminals are pinned to the clevis and socket
assembly at the purchase cable coupling for quick
detachment during replacement.
To remove a pendant, it is necessary to put slack
in the cable. If the pendant has been retrieved and
must be replaced, reduce the accumulator pressure
to 200 psi and pull the pendant out a few feet, using
a deck tractor. Hold the retracting valve open while
the tractor is pulling, then block the valve in the
closed position to prevent retraction. It may be
necessary to clamp a block on the purchase cable to
prevent its slipping back due to its own weight. If
a pendant is badly damaged during an arrestment
and must be replaced immediately, either do NOT
retract the pendant or retract the pendant only
partially so that slack is left in the cable system.
