WARNINGDo not perform maintenance on equip-ment with installed cartridges except in thepresence of personnel capable of renderingaid if necessary.Seat Removal and InstallationBefore entering the cockpit, ensure that all seatand canopy safety pins and devices are properlyinstalled. Check that the ejection control safetyhandle (fig. 6-13) (head knocker) is in the downand locked position. Ensure that the pilot’s andcopilot’s eject mode selector handles are set to theSELF EJECT position.Remove the parachute and survival kit bydisconnecting the oxygen and communicationsquick-disconnect. Disconnect the emergencyoxygen and emergency radio beacon quick-releaselanyard attached to the aircraft’s structure.Squeeze the harness release handle and disengagefrom holder. Remove the parachute actuatorarming cable from the handle, and pull upwardon the handle until the harness release actuatorlocks in the MANUAL DETENT position. Reseatthe handle into the holder.Withdraw the inertia reel straps from the chuteroller fittings. Rotate the aft end of the survivalkit up and forward to release the forwardmounting hooks from the seat mounting brackets.Remove the parachute and survival kit from theaircraft and deliver to the aviators equipmentwork center.If the seat is not in the full down position,apply electrical power and lower the seat to thefull down position. Do not hold the seat adjustswitch in the UP or DOWN position for morethan 15 seconds to prevent damage to the seatheight actuator.Remove the M99 initiator actuating cover andinstall safety pins in the initiators (fig. 6-5). Thepilot and copilot seats require two safety pins, andthe TACCO and SENSO seats require one safetypin. Remove, as required, overhead window orhatch assembly.
